Cats love to climb and be adventurous.  They love having lots of surfaces to climb on and explore, as well as a safe place to take a nap.  If you have cats, why not surprise them with a cat tree?  They are fun to make and design and kitty will love you for it.  You will need some 2X4 posts, 4X4 posts, glue, screws, staple gun, carpeting, cat toys, plywood, and sisal rope for this project.

Let’s get busy.

  1. Decide on the design you want and how big you wish for the tree to be.  The more cats you have the bigger you will want it. Sketch it out on paper first.

  2. You will need 2 X 4 and 4X4 posts.  Wrap them with sissal rope.  Begin at the bottom and move upward.  Secure with a staple gun at the top and then randomly in places so it does not come undone.

  3. Next cut some plywood in whatever designs you wish for the platforms.   Cover each one with carpeting.

  4. Cut a large base for your platform out of plywood.  The larger it is the more secure it will be.

  5. Position your posts on the base and secure with a drill and screws.

  6. Secure the posts using wood glue.  Once the glue is dry, drill screws down each platform into the post to keep them in place.

  7. Attach toys to the tree so kitty has something to bat at.
