How To Find Slope
This guide/tutorial will teach you How to Find the Slope of a line. It isn’t difficult to determine the slope of an object such as a roof. Finding the Slope can be done in a very short amount of time as well.
Slope is the steepness, incline or grade of any line, considered to be at an “angle. It can also be called the gradient of a line. Some examples are ramps, roofs, and terrains.
How To Find Slope
Slope Formula: m = y2-y1/x2-x1
- m stands for the measure of your slopeNow just substitute your points in the place of y2, y1, x2 and x1.
Example: (-1,-1), (3,2)
m = (-1-2)/(-1-3) simplified to m = -3/-2 = 3/4
Rise over Run Method of finding Slope
There is an easier method to find slope, the Rise over Run method.
Slope = rise / Run
If you use the points (3,0) and (0,4), the Rise is 4 as this is the amount of steps “UP” to where the line intersects with the y axis. The run would thus be 3 as it is the amount of steps “over” to meet the x axis.
The slope using Rise over Run is thus 4/3
