Did you drink Beer or wine from bottle, directly ? If yes, the you must be knowing how does the bottle look like, practically. And if no, then also you might be knowing it how does it look like, right ? So, today in this tutorial I will teach you how develop a realistic Beer bottle as shown in the above image. Also, it can test your drawing skills, as well as your sensitivity with the mouse or mice usage. You will need lot of patience and concentration while developing a beer bottle. Also, this tutorial will teach you the uses of many tools of photo shop which probably you might have not used it till now make you more familiar with photoshop. Also, this tutorial works fine with adobe photo shop CS4 and newer version which are released by adobe. :)

Develop a Beer bottle via photoshop

  1. Open adobe photoshop and create a new document, which you can do it via file option in the menu bar or by pressing Ctrl+N. And then choose the size of the document you want to develop, I’m choosing 1280×820, that is 1280 pixel width and 820 pixel as height, though it can vary from computer to computer as resolution is not same for everyone and I chose background as white with color mode as RGB 8 bit.

  2. Now create a new layer and rename it as bottle, you can create new layer by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N or by going to menu bar and then clicking on layer and then new and then select layer. And then press Ctrl+R so that you can see the rulers and then make three lines/guides.

  3. Now, you can use the pen tool to draw the bottle in between middle and the right line, as shown in the below image,

  4. Now, right click on the curve which we have drawn in previous step and then select fill path and then select foreground color whichever you like depending on your taste, I chose black, opacity as 100% and mode as normal. Make sure that the anti-alias check box is ticked/ checked with feather radius as 0. And now after this step the image should look as shown in the below image,

  5. Now duplicate the bottle layer by pressing Ctrl+J or right click on the bottle layer and select duplicate layer and then flip it horizontally by going to menu bar and then clicking on transform and then select flip horizontal. And then use move tool to adjust the position of the other half of the bottle correctly and the merge layers, which you can do it by pressing Ctrl+E. After this step the image should look like something as shown in the below image,

  6. Now, using Polygonal Lasso Tool select the top portion of the bottle and then right click on the selected portion and then select the layer via copy option, as shown in the below image,

  7. After the above step you will have two layers, totally three layers (background, bottle and layer 1) and now you have to lock transparent pixels of the layer 1 by clicking on the button in the palette, just search above layers you will find it. And the using brush toll color the top portion by any color, which you thinks suits the best. I chose grey color for the top portion.

  8. Now, you can give some shaded color to the top portion, it is optional, by reducing the half of the portions opacity to 25% and then filling with other color. And then create the path as shown in the below image and then right click on it and then adjust the settings as shown in the below image,

  9. Now, Using eraser make the bottle image more furnished, like deleting the edges which has sharp corners, etc. And the duplicate the layer by pressing Ctrl+J and then using burn tool give the effect of bottle’s cap. Also, give some glowing effect by using blending options and then image should look like as shown in the below image,

  10. Now, Using pen tool select the portion as shown in the below image and apply dark grey color or any color which suits the image developed by you the best, as shown in the below image,

  11. Now, select the rectangular tool and select the right side of the bottle partially and then use Dodge Tool with brush as 76 pixels, exposure as 25% and range as shadow, then image after selecting the rectangular area looks as shown in the below image,

and after applying dodge tool settings and by using the pen tool in new layer to fill the bottle by beer the image should look as shown in the below image,

  12. Now, blur the beer marks by going to menu bar and then clicking filter and then selecting blur option and then motion blur with angle zero degrees and distance as 21 to 23 pixels, which suits your requirement. And then use Gaussian blur with radius as 1.5 pixels and then create a new layer by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N or through menu bar, and select using pen tool as shown in the below image,

  13. Now, select foreground and background color accordingly, I chose fore ground color as #282828 and background color as white and then goto filter in menu bar and then click on render and then select clouds. After this using motion blur blur the selected area, that is by clicking on filter and then blur option and then by selecting motion blur, with angls as -72 degrees (or whichever suits your image the best) and distance as 30 pixels and then apply guassian blur with radius 1.4 pixels and then decrease the opacity accordingly (I chose 56% opacity for layer 6), then image should look like as shown in the below image,

  14. Now create another layer. And the select the brush with diameter 6 pixel and the mode as normal with flow and opacity as 100% and draw the path using pen tool and then right click on it and tick the check box stimulate pressure, as shown in the below image,

  15. Now, we have to blur the path using motion blur so that the image looks more realistic, you can do motion blur as specified in previous step with measures as distance equal to 39 pixel and angle as -77 degree. And then decrease the opacity accordingly, I decrease it to 50%, that is set it to 50%, which you can do it from the palette just above layers. And now apply Gaussian blur with radius 1.4 pixels, or whichever suits your image and then merge the layer 6 and layer 7, as shown in the below image,

  16. Now, duplicate the layer 7 (that is previously merged layer) and then using transform give the effect on the left side of the bottle then the image should like as shown in the below image,

  17. Now, we have to paste the label like sticker on the bottle, for this create new layer and the using pen tool select the area and as shown in the image and then right click on it to set the settings as shown in the below image,

  18. Now, apply the color to the label, as per your taste and then give it light/ glowing effects using Lighting Effects, which you can find it in menu bar. Go to filter and then click on render option and then select lighting effects.

  19. Now, select the dodge tool with values of the features of it as range as shadows, brush as 100 pixel and exposure as 25%, and it can be varied depending upon your requirement, taste and color combinations you are using, so the value are not absolute, they are actually relative values which suits best for the colors I chose. And then add highlights on th edges of the bottle then after this step the image looks as shown in the below image,

  20. And now, you can stop developing more if you are satisfied with the result so far you got, and if you are interested in learning more and trying new things so that image looks more realistic select the pen tool and select the area as shown in the below image, and then right click on the selection to select make selection option, as shown in the below image,

  21. Now, decrease the opacity, if you want to do so otherwise it is optional and then give it glowing effect while deleting the unwanted parts and furnishing more. And now duplicate the procedure on the right side of the bottle using transform and then flip horizontal option, the the image looks as shown in the below image,

And then you can see the final image which looks like a beer bottle which is sealed and yet to be opened for drink. The bottle looks more posh and stylish, as gave glowing effects which you can see in the following final image of the tutorial,

Also, you can add text to the label of the beer bottle, if you want (again it is optional) .
This concludes the long and not to boring tutorial on how to develop a beer bottle with shiny effects around it and make it look more realistic and more stylish. And now you can use the developed image as you desktop wallpaper with some caption on it or you can improve it further. To get the expected results just play around with the tools, which fits your requirement correctly and by doing that you will learn more about photo shop software, brushes used in various images and tools, and at last you have fun and satisfaction that you developed something really wonderful using photoshop, and can go forward in your designing career using your creativity.

And at last, have fun.. :)
